NEGRESCO

Negresco plays with alternating layers of color that frame the internal fluorescent tube. Clearly inspired by Minimal Art, the lamp is like a bridge between art and design, American and Europe, modern and classic. 

A wall lamp in wood covered with decorative laminate and designed by Martine Bedin, Negresco is composed of layers of different materials that alternate the colors pink, yellow, pistachio green and black in an unusual arrangement. The static image of the frame is disrupted by the cylindrical fluorescent fixture that boldly crosses the pink background of the lamp.

The sherbet colors suggest the gentle climate of the French Riviera. The name Negresco is a tribute to France, the homeland of Bedin. Drawing on memories of the historic hotel of timeless charm founded in 1913 by Henri Négresco in Nice, this lamp takes us to the Promenade des Anglais, ever a place of high society and worldly charm.

Martine Bedin è una designer, artista, architetta e docente. Studia Architettura all'Ecole d’architecture di Parigi e ottiene nel 1978 una borsa di studio che la porta a Firenze, dove incontra i membri del movimento dell’Architettura Radicale. Il fondatore di Superstudio, Adolfo Natalini, la invita ad esporre “la casa decorata” alla Triennale Milano nel 1979, dove conosce Michele De Lucchi ed Ettore Sottsass. All’inizio degli anni ‘80 trascorre due anni nello studio di Sottsass, che la invita a collaborare con Memphis. Bedin lavora con diversi materiali, come marmo, legno, metallo e ceramica. Affianca al lavoro di designer anche l’insegnamento universitario. Dal 1991 si concentra esclusivamente sulla creazione di mobili unici. Nel 1993 è stata insignita con l'onorificenza dell'"Ordre des Arts et des Lettres". Il suo lavoro è esposto in importanti musei e collezioni private, come il Musée des Arts Décoratifs a Parigi, il Victoria & Albert Museum di Londra, e la Manufacture Nationale de Sèvres.
