The Group

Gufram, Memphis, and Meritalia® are part of the Italian Radical Design group, based in the Langhe region of Italy. The group was founded with the aim of preserving and enhancing historic Italian design brands with a radical and unconventional spirit. Here's Gufram, the rebellious and playful brand, with a catalog of true icons, including the unforgettable BOCCA® and CACTUS®. Then there's Memphis, which has continued its decorative and stylistic revolution from the 1980s to today, thanks to the group of authors around Ettore Sottsass. Finally, Meritalia®, which serves as an incubator for multifaceted creativity, also thanks to the great Gaetano Pesce, who shaped its identity and catalog. A vision, a group of three brands, always with a nonconformist spirit, embodied by true icons in design history, but also by functional furniture and objects that accompany everyday life. A theory of the extraordinary that becomes material, research, manufacturing, and inhabited space.

DESIGN AGAINST THE TIDE

Founded in Turin in 1966 as an artisan reality, Gufram is now known worldwide for having pushed the limits of industrial design. With its spirit of Radical Design and its nonconformist experimentation, Gufram has created playful, subversive and irreverent pieces over the years. Design icons that have become unique in form and value thanks to the contamination between industrial design, artisan creation and fantasy. The brand's research commitment has led the company to master the treatment of soft polyurethane and to develop a special patented Gufram finish. Gufram's unmistakable furnishing elements, such as BOCCA®, PRATONE® and CACTUS®, represent the point of contact between art and design and are now exhibited in some of the most beautiful homes and most renowned museums in the world.

MORE COLORFUL, MORE JOYFUL

Memphis was born from an idea of Ettore Sottsass in 1981, with the intention of creating products designed by him and a group of young architects and designers close to him, such as Michele De Lucchi, Aldo Cibic, Matteo Thun, Marco Zanini, Martine Bedin, and Nathalie Du Pasquier. Also under the artistic direction of Barbara Radice, Memphis quickly became a cultural phenomenon and presented its first collection at the Salone del Mobile in 1981. Memphis design represented a new expressive concept linked to new forms, new materials, and new patterns, and revolutionized the logic of living habits, conquering the design world. Now acquired by the Italian Radical Design group, the free spirit of Memphis continues to be a source of inspiration for entire generations.
