FIX Bench

The Fix bench by Achille Castiglioni is composed of two elements: a simple painted metal structure and a classic wool mattress as a seat. This sober and functional design reveals Castiglioni's unmistakable style: he begins with an "anonymous" object and, through "redesign", transforms its function and context. 

Available in both rectangular and square formats, Fix features the typical capitonné "buttons" that contribute to the bench's softness and comfort. Simplicity and adaptability make this project perfectly modular, allowing various combinations with two or more pieces, depending on the available space and function.

Achille Castiglioni rarely placed limits on the intended use and location of his designs: from private to public spaces, the person who uses the object is free, without limitations or constraints. Achille Castiglioni nasce a Milano il 16 febbraio 1918 e si laurea in Architettura nel 1944. Fin dal 1940 si dedica alla sperimentazione sul prodotto industriale insieme ai fratelli Livio (1911-1979) e Pier Giacomo (1913-1968). Dopo la laurea in Architettura nel 1944, dà vita ad un’attività di ricerca sulle forme, le tecniche e i materiali nuovi, tendente alla realizzazione di un processo di progettazione integrale. Consegue presso il Ministero della Pubblica Istruzione nel 1969 la Libera Docenza in “Progettazione Artistica per l’Industria” e tiene la Cattedra presso la Facoltà di Architettura di Torino fino al 1980 e poi a Milano fino al 1993 come professore ordinario di “Disegno Industriale”. Ha attuato dal 1950 ad oggi esperimenti e ricerche nella realizzazione di allestimenti per esposizioni (Triennale di Milano, Montecatini, Agip, Rai).
Nel 1956 è tra i fondatori dell’ADI e al MoMA di New York sono presenti 14 sue opere.
