For Milanese, the michetta is everyday bread. It's the smell of the bakery down the street, it's the taste of being together for no particular reason other than the desire to share a moment. It's the most recognizable shape – a "rosetta" made of yeast and flour petals – yet never the same, irregular because it's handmade. What do Meritalia® and Gaetano Pesce, the most radical of the radicals, do with these concepts? They mix them, knead them, and finally bake fillings out of the ordinary, fragrant every day like bread.

A sofa that does not conform to a predetermined style, not designed as a furnishing accessory but as a versatile protagonist in the reinvention of domesticity. An object made of many objects, eclectic modules that can only compose schemes outside the box. Gaetano Pesce conceives the Michetta as a game between the mind that designs it, the hands that produce it, and the creativity of those who choose it.

The capitonné workmanship rises randomly, sometimes flexing, sometimes growing, in contrast with the geometry of each rectangular or cubic module, delimited by the wooden structure. The buttons mark the depressions of the surface and punctuate it, outlining a three-dimensional and irregular pattern that invites exploration of the comfort of the seat.

There are no limits to its use either. The michetta is for sitting, for stretching out; indeed, sitting and stretching out become actions to be reconsidered, depending on whether the module is horizontal, vertical, a seat or backrest or armrest, single or multiple. It is a welcoming sofa, an icon of shared comfort: a comfort that invites conviviality.

The Michetta is for the center of the room, and attracts anyone who wants to indulge this force of gravity, but also those who prefer a state of constant exploration. The modules can be continuously rearranged, allowing for the imagination of various configurations, which each time reactivate and renew the most diverse spaces, intimate like a home living room or a reception area, designed to welcome and amaze!

Gaetano Pesce

Gaetano Pesce's multifaceted and polyhedral personality motivates his fame as a designer, artist, and architect. Through his work, Pesce has profoundly impacted the landscape of contemporary design, navigating a diverse career that spans architecture, art, furniture design, and sculptural works. "My career is not monolithic, but fragmented," this is how Pesce defined his journey, which began in the late 1950s and continued until 2024. Far from being linear, his path has been marked by bold eclecticism, leading him to engage with various design disciplines while demonstrating a penchant for experimentation and playfulness. Pesce challenged both aesthetic and functional conventions, creating objects with the immediate power to become unforgettable.

Since the early 1960s, Pesce has played a pivotal role within the radical design movement, characterised by an iconoclastic vision, aimed at breaking with the conventions of positivist modernism and exploring new creative possibilities. Through relentless innovation, artistic exploration and profoundly radical intellectual dynamism, Pesce emerged as a beacon of change, reshaping the landscape of contemporary design.
